Plainlyst Terms
Effective date: 2026-10-10
These Terms are an agreement between you and JC RESERVE LLC, an Ohio limited liability company that operates Plainlyst ("we", "us"). By creating an account, or by buying Premium, you agree to these Terms. Our Privacy notice explains how we handle information; it is information for you, not something you agree to.
1. What Plainlyst is
- Plainlyst explains, in plain English, what companies say in their own published policies.
- It lists settings you can change in those companies' own products ("Tune-Up").
- It shows data-center projects drawn from public records on a map.
Company reports name the company documents they are based on.
2. What Plainlyst is not
- Not legal advice. Plainlyst describes what companies have published. It does not tell you what the law requires of them or of you.
- Not a rating. We do not grade companies, and nothing on Plainlyst says that a company has broken a law.
- Not affiliated with the companies we describe. Company names are used to identify whose policy is described.
- Not always current. Companies change their policies. Each report shows the document it is based on, and the company's current document is the authority. Map records come from public sources that can be incomplete or out of date; a project described as "requested" is not a project that was built.
3. Who may use Plainlyst
- Plainlyst is for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. Do not create an account if you are under 13.
- Personal use only. Plainlyst and Premium are for your own personal, non-commercial use. By buying Premium you confirm that you are buying it for your personal use and not for a business. We do not currently offer Premium for business use.
- Premium is sold only to customers located in one of the 50 United States, with a billing address there. It is not sold to customers elsewhere, including the District of Columbia and US territories. If a purchase does not meet this, we may refund it and end the Premium it gave.
- To buy Premium you must be able to make a binding contract where you live.
4. Your account
- Use an email address you control, and keep your password private.
- You can ask to delete your account from your account page. The Privacy notice says what a completed deletion removes and what is kept.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks section 5. Unless the law or safety prevents it, we will tell you why by email.
- If we close your account without a breach on your part, we will refund the unused part of your current Monthly or Annual period, in proportion to the days left, and the full price of a Lifetime purchase made in the previous 12 months.
5. Acceptable use
Do not:
- try to get around access controls or read other people's data;
- overload the service, or use automated means to copy Plainlyst's own pages or data in bulk. This does not restrict your use of material that is in the public domain or licensed for reuse;
- use Plainlyst to send spam or to harass anyone;
- misrepresent who you are in feedback or requests.
6. Content and licenses
- Ours: the explanations, summaries, page text and design we write belong to JC RESERVE LLC. You may read them, link to them, and quote short passages with attribution.
- Not ours: quotations from a company's own documents remain that company's. Public records and government data shown on the map remain under the terms of their sources. The background map is © OpenStreetMap contributors, served by OpenFreeMap with OpenMapTiles, and the map shows that attribution. Nothing in these Terms claims ownership of, or restricts lawful reuse of, third-party or public-domain material.
7. Feedback and requests
You can use our feedback and request pages to tell us things. If you send suggestions, we may use them to improve Plainlyst without owing you anything. Do not send passwords, card numbers or other sensitive information in feedback.
B1. Premium plans and prices
Premium is offered as:
- Monthly, $2.99 a month;
- Annual, $19.99 a year;
- Lifetime, $39.99 once.
Prices are in US dollars. The price you pay is the one shown on Stripe's checkout page before you confirm. We do not currently add sales tax. If we are required to charge tax, the tax will be shown on the checkout page before you pay.
B2. Automatic renewal (Monthly and Annual)
Monthly and Annual plans renew automatically. Each renewal is charged to your payment method at the start of the period, at the price then in effect, until you cancel.
- Cancel any time. Cancel online from your account page ("Manage billing"), or by emailing james@plainlysthq.com from your account's email address. Canceling stops future renewals. You keep Premium until the end of the period you have already paid for, and you are not charged again. Your subscription ends on that date; until then it shows as canceled at the end of the period.
- Your confirmation. Within two business days after you subscribe, we email you a confirmation of your plan, its price, these renewal terms and how to cancel. Stripe also emails a receipt for each payment.
- When you cancel. Within two business days after you cancel, we email you a confirmation that says the date your Premium ends.
- Yearly reminder. Once a year, for both plans, we email you a reminder of your plan, its price and how to cancel. For the Annual plan, it arrives no fewer than 15 and no more than 45 days before each renewal. For the Monthly plan, it arrives in the month before each anniversary of your subscription.
- Price changes. If we change a plan's price, we will email you no fewer than 7 and no more than 30 days before the new price applies to your next renewal, with how to cancel. You can cancel before then.
B3. Lifetime
Lifetime gives you Premium for as long as Plainlyst operates Premium, on the account you bought it with. It is not a promise that Plainlyst or Premium will operate forever.
- If we stop operating Premium, we will email Lifetime holders at least 30 days before it ends. If it ends within 12 months of your Lifetime purchase, we will refund the full price you paid.
- Deleting your account ends Lifetime for that account, because Premium belongs to the account.
The founding Lifetime offer may close at any time.
B4. Refunds
- Asking. You can ask for a refund within 14 days of a charge by writing to james@plainlysthq.com from your account's email address. We consider each request individually and tell you our decision. A refund is not automatic, except where these Terms or the law require one.
- What a refund does. A full refund of a Lifetime purchase ends that Lifetime Premium. A full refund of the payment for your current Monthly or Annual period ends Premium for that period. A partial refund does not change your access.
- A refund does not cancel a subscription. To stop future renewals, cancel as described in B2; we can do it for you when we grant a refund, if you ask.
- Your other rights. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under the law, including your rights with your card issuer and under consumer protection law.
B5. Promotion codes
A code applies only where stated (currently Lifetime only). Codes cannot be combined and have no cash value. The reduced price is shown on Stripe's checkout page before you pay. We may end a code at any time; ending it does not change a purchase already made.
B6. Deleting an account with Premium
If you delete your account while a subscription is active, we cancel the subscription with Stripe before the deletion completes, so you are not charged again. Deleting your account does not by itself refund the current period. You can ask for a refund under B4.
8. Changes to Plainlyst and to these Terms
Plainlyst is new and will change. We post every change to these Terms on this page and update the effective date above.
- If we make a material change, we will email account holders at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can cancel Premium or delete your account before then.
- A change never applies to a payment made before it, or to a period you have already paid for.
- A change to a plan's price follows B2.
9. Disclaimers
Plainlyst is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties beyond those stated in these Terms, and we do not warrant that Plainlyst is error-free, uninterrupted, or complete or current about any company or project. Some states do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim about Plainlyst is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $50 if that is more. This does not limit liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and the state and federal courts located in Ohio have jurisdiction. This does not take away any right you have to bring a claim in your own state's courts, or under your own state's consumer protection law. If you have a problem, please write to us first at james@plainlysthq.com and give us a chance to put it right.
